We did the grocery shopping last night, a two hour ordeal (one for travel, one for navigating WinCo Foods) after which we always treat ourselves to a take and bake pizza. When we got home, we were without power, so the pizza sat on the porch, sadly uneaten. Our range top works when the power is out, but the oven has a digital dial. The real bitch is the no water situation-I don't feel real professional heating up water on the stove to take a ho-bath (splash the water between the legs, under the boobs and rinse the armpits). In any case, today J flagged down a passing caravan of electric company men who are busy as bees fixing the temporary fixes they threw up after the storm, and reports from the home front indicate that we do again have power.
I'm gonna go home and eat'sa pizza.

Pretty scary wind storm out here last Thursday. Gusts of 100 mph. Trees down, flooding, a few days without electric, roads impassable. We heard a gigantic crash which turned out to be most of a tree taking off part of our house and smooshing our power line. I was surprised (pleasantly) to have electric back on by Saturday night-it gets cold out on the mountain. Luckily, I got lamp oil and wicks last time it stormed, so we were somewhat prepared, although we didn't think to pick up water (note to self: well won't pump water without electric), and didn't have more than a day's supply of wood (enough to dry out what we could scavenge from the blow downs).
I'd like to thank the oh so helpful radio fuckers who kept telling us that we could find out about closed roads, weather conditions and utility outages by simply going on the internet. Real friggen helpful, assholes.

So, as you may have assumed from my protracted blog silence, I've been busy as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. Still no internet out at our little mountain hideaway either. Also no tv (no channels come in), though I did break down and buy an answering machine, since J is job looking. I'm glad to be working, and to be honest, though financially it's been rough, I'm glad J had some time unemployed. It makes me feel better that I can spend some time supporting him, after the horrible year he's supported me. And I think he needed some time off.
I'm starting to feel a bit more like a lawyer these days, although it feels strange to sign my name, Attorney at Law. Mostly I'm able to leave work at work, which is nice, though there are some cases that keep me tossing and turning at night, hoping I didn't screw something up too badly. The schedule is not demanding, and I've been able to pretty well keep my hours reasonable (and not just "lawyer reasonable" but really real world reasonable). The office is very low key and relaxed. I don't even have to wear a suit on non court days, although I keep a jacket at the office for emergency hearings.
